Family KITAS (ITAS/Limited Stay Permit)

The Family/Dependent KITAS is granted only to close relatives of an Indonesian citizen, including spouses, children, stepchildren, and parents, or to applicants who hold another type of KITAS.

There are two types of validity for this KITAS:

  • 1-year KITAS (extendable annually, up to a total of 5 years)
  • 2-year KITAS (also includes multiple re-entry permits)

The spouse and children of the primary KITAS holder will have the same ITAS validity as the primary ITAS holder.

Conversion to KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit)

This KITAS can be converted into a KITAP (5-year permanent residence permit) depending on the type of the primary KITAS holder. Eligible primary KITAS holders include:

  • Working KITAS holders (must hold the highest position in the company)
  • Investor KITAS holders
  • Spouse or children of an Indonesian citizen. (Spouses of Indonesian citizens can convert their KITAS into KITAP (unlimited stay permit after 2 times extensions)
  • Golden Visa holders
  • Indonesian citizenship sponsors

Benefits of the Family/Dependent KITAS

Holders of this KITAS enjoy certain privileges similar to Indonesian citizens, such as:

  • Ability to open a bank account in Indonesia
  • Obtaining an Indonesian ID (SKTT – Surat Keterangan Tempat Tinggal) from the Civil Registry Office based on domicile
  • Applying for an Indonesian driver’s license

This visa is ideal for foreign family members looking to reside in Indonesia under legal sponsorship.

This type of KITAS requires the applicant to apply for an SKTT (Surat Keterangan Tempat Tinggal) as part of the extension process. The SKTT serves as an official identification document for foreigners residing in Indonesia.
